The Athens State Orchestra:
Images of the Orient

One should bear in mind that serious European music is not an exclusive affair of the West, and this concert is an illustration of this statement. Athens Concert Hall audiences will enjoy perfectionist conductor Matthias Foremny in Aram Khachatourian’s Concerto, in which elements of Armenian folk music mingle harmoniously with a classical idiom, and in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s sensuous Scheherazade, a model of brilliant orchestration and spontaneous musicality.
