Letter from Istanbul

Overview
MEGARON UNDERGROUND
In the 19th century, two friends, Tanburi Cemil Bey, a Turk, and Vassilakis Kementzis [i.e. kemençe player], a Romiós (Greek of Istanbul) rescued their compositions from oblivion by recording their music on the phonograph, then a new and exciting medium.
Today, two other friends and fellow musicians, Derya Türkan and Sokratis Sinopoulos, transfer that music from the crowded, music-filled wine houses of Istanbul to the concert halls of Europe.
A letter of invitation from a contemporary Greek and a contemporary Turk, who respectfully pick up the threads of their predecessors’ work, a century later.
