The Armonia Atenea–Friends of Music Orchestra Musicians pay tribute to the anniversary of the 1821 War of Independence with an emblematic work of the Romantic era, dedicated to the struggle of the enslaved Greeks for freedom: Hector Berlioz’s La révolution grecque. Berlioz idealizes the 1821 war, comparing its protagonists to the mythical heroes of ancient Greece. Richard Strauss’ Metamorphosen is a profoundly anti-war work that connects the 19th with the 20th century by using echoes of the funeral march from Beethoven’s Eroica. Biber’s impressive Battalia à 10 is a baroque imitation of a battle for 10 solo instruments.

– Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber: Battalia à 10
