Megaron the Athens Concert Hall connected Athens with Europe’s leading musical capitals. Watch the concerts as they were broadcast from 11 European cities here.

On World Music DayMegaron the Athens Concert Hall connected Athens with Europe’s leading musical capitals through the presentation of the major pan-European project EUROPIANO – Europe’s Great Piano Concertos, an ambitious production by ARTEZDF / ARTE, ARTE GEIE, ARTE France and NDR/ARTE, in collaboration with leading European cultural institutions and broadcasters.

From Vienna and Paris to StockholmLisbon and Athens, landmark works from the international piano repertoire were performed in historic and iconic venues, highlighting music as a shared European language.

The Greek contribution was filmed on the Pnyx hill, against the backdrop of the Attic sky and the Acropolis of AthensDeutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, under the musical direction of Constantinos Carydis and featuring distinguished pianist Lukas Sternath as soloist, performed Piano Concerto No. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the celebrated “Emperor” Concerto.

The official public screening of EUROPIANO took place live in the garden of the Megaron the Athens Concert Hall.

EUROPIANO brought together leading pianists from the international music scene, including Martha ArgerichYulianna AvdeevaRafał BlechaczBruce LiuEric LuMao FujitaLukas SternathHayato SuminoNobuyuki Tsujii and Anna Vinnitskaya, representing different musical traditions, generations and interpretative approaches.

They were joined by distinguished European orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic OrchestraDeutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Gulbenkian Orchestra and other leading symphonic ensembles from across Europe, under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductors including Klaus MäkeläKonstantinos KaridisHannu LintuAlain Altinoglu and Petr Popelka.
