Overview

OPERA

Supported by the Antenna Group. In collaboration with the Athens Concert Hall
& the Thessaloniki Concert Hall

A production of the Antenna Group

The gripping story of Pharaoh Akhnaten—known as Amenophis IV in Greek—the religious reformer who introduced the monotheistic worship of Aten, a solar deity, incurring the wrath of the High Priests of Amun at Thebes that led to his fall and succession by his son Tutankhamun, who restored polytheism.
The last opera of the Portrait Trilogy by Philip Glass, the great American minimalist. Having tackled science (Einstein) and politics (Gandhi), he turned to religious themes with Akhnaten. A new production of the Metropolitan Opera of New York, with rising American mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges making her Met debut in the role of Queen Nefertiti.
