Michel van der Aa: Blank Out

Overview
OPERA – MUSICAL THEATRE
A high-tech spectacle using innovative techniques and electronic music so that image and physical presence are in perfect unison. Blank Out, which can only be watched with special glasses, is an opera for soprano, baritone, chorus, and 3D film. It centres on the dialogue between a man and his mother, the libretto being based upon the work and life of South African poetess Ingrid Jonker. A deeply human story, it explores memory and the way in which people reconstruct traumatic life events.
A co-production of the Dutch National Opera, the Lucerne Festival, and the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
