2nd year of success
In what way can an orchestra of traditional instruments perform Beethoven? Can baroque and rebetiko music fit on the same stage? How does an aria turn into an amanet? Can we find in the same story songs by unknown composers spread by word of mouth and works by well-known classical composers? Elias Karellas returns to the Megaron with an original proposal for children: a performance-educational programme that combines opera, classical and traditional music, Greek Karagiozis and modern shadow theatre. Taking inspiration from Richard Strauss and The Woman Without a Shadow to A Thousand and One Nights, the beloved shadow puppeteer and director creates a two-dimensional world, magical and inviting. Here the notes dance freely on the pentagram, the D minor meets the folk streets and taqasim, the ear marvels and the soul sings. Elias Karellas takes us on a journey to the crossroads of West and East with music as his compass. Areti Ketime with her wonderful voice and her santouri meets the soprano Angeliki-Zoi Karagouni in a heterogeneous and subversive musical partnership.
