Silent water or speaking water, sacred or cursed, inaccessible and rare or forceful and dangerous — water has always been part of the everyday magic of our existence.

Watersong is a tapestry of songs about water and the desert, about life and death, fertility, magic, desire and purification. Songs of rain, sea, rivers, tears and droplets; of water within the body, the body within water — our body. Traditional and Renaissance songs from different countries weave stories about water and its power, about the life it can give and the life it can take away.

Alongside Savina Yannatou and Primavera en Salonico, Tunisian singer Lamia Bedioui brings the world of the desert with the distinctive timbre of her voice. Oud, kanun, ney, violin, accordion, percussion, waterphone and double bass accompany the voices, blending traditional elements with free improvisation.

The concert was first presented at the Little Theatre of Epidaurus in 2020, as part of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, and is based on the homonymous fifth album by Savina Yannatou and Primavera en Salonico, released by ECM.
