One of the most powerful works of sacred music ever written, a composition that seems to converse with Heaven itself: Claudio Monteverdi’s Vespers of the Blessed Virgin, presented by the Camerata – Friends of Music Orchestra and the Athens Chamber Choir under Emiliano Gonzalez Toro, the Swiss early music specialist whose daring interpretations of Monteverdi have captivated audiences and critics worldwide.

The Vespers, which blend elements of traditional Catholic liturgy with the style of the Renaissance and early Baroque, were published in Venice in 1610 and dedicated by the composer to Pope Paul V. A spiritual creation of ritual grandeur and lyrical beauty, it leaves no listener untouched: polyphonic sections, dazzling duets, choral climaxes and devout melodies weave a soundscape that rises from earth to heaven. With profound insight into human emotion, Monteverdi transforms the Vespers into an overwhelming, cathartic experience.

Presented for the first time in Greece, this landmark work, which profoundly influenced the course of music, is not merely a concert to be heard, but a true initiation to be lived.
