The musical performance “Christ in the Castle” is based on the eponymous short story by Alexandros Papadiamantis. Following the great success of its premiere in Boston and performances in New York and Thessaloniki, it now comes to Athens. Vasiliki Nevrokopli has adapted the story into fifteen-syllable rhyming iambic verse, faithfully and respectfully rendering the style, language, and profound spirituality of the writer from Skiathos. The original music is composed by Kyriakos Kalaitzidis, who set the verses to music according to the rules of Byzantine octoechos, creating a work that bridges our learned and folk musical traditions. The performance transports us to the Skiathos of the 18th century: a world of faith, simplicity, and solidarity. A contemplative yet festive experience for young and old alike, one that highlights the Greek ethos and the Orthodox spirit of Christmas.
