Following an enthusiastic response from audiences, pupils and teachers alike, “Kara-cartoon” returns for a second consecutive year at the Megaron, presenting an original theatrical experience for pupils centred on emotions, music and children’s relationship with technology. Drawing inspiration from the world of cartoons, the traditional shadow-puppet screen is transformed into a living page of shadow-sketches, as tradition innovates by speaking to the present and the future. This is a unique shadow-theatre production with live music and actors, in which the beloved Karagiozis is transported into a contemporary digital world full of screens, speed and repetition.
In the imaginary city of Kara-cartoon, Karagiozis and his companions live in an endless loop, with no memory, no past or future: Pixel the Witch has trapped them in a dazzling yet lifeless digital dimension. Amid these repeating frames, without genuine reactions or choices, will our heroes manage to rediscover joy, sadness, fear, anger and surprise? Could it be that the secret catalyst leading to the discovery of emotions is, in fact, music?
Through a unique collaboration between shadow theatre, the live music of Burger Project and the world of comics, forgotten emotions are awakened, and the audience takes an active part through group interactive games.
“Kara-cartoon” is not merely an entertaining performance; it also serves as a modern educational tool, providing a starting point for creative classroom discussion around emotions, the proper use of technology, and children’s everyday lives. With a multi-layered structure, it is aimed at nursery and primary school pupils, as well as older children, allowing every child to connect meaningfully with the piece.
