“The dream is the royal road to the unconscious,” wrote Freud. From this thought is born a musical narrative, by violinist Vasilis Soukas and pianist Elena Christodoulou. Each work marks a stage on a journey from sleep to awakening: Fauré’s Clair de lune and Berceuse open the gateway to the dream, Debussy’s Violin Sonata in G minor and Ysaÿe’s Poème élégiaque lead to the deeper layers of the unconscious, while the rare Violin Sonata in G major by Guillaume Lekeu brings the inner quest to its peak. With Fauré’s Après un rêve we return to consciousness, having experienced that silent transformation which only the healing properties of dream and music can bring forth.
