The Salzburg Camerata was founded in 1952 by the great conductor, composer and musicologist Bernhard Baumgartner. Today, seventy-two years later, it continues its rich artistic work with undiminished success, under the direction of leading figures of the international music scene, including Leonidas Kavakos. The Orchestra’s concert at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall is undoubtedly one of the most important musical events of this year’s artistic season, not only for its sound, which is considered representative of Viennese classical music, but also for the programme it will present: two colossal symphonic masterpieces by Brahms, among the finest and most important works of German Romanticism. The first, the Piano Concerto No. 1, features as soloist the renowned French pianist Hélène Grimaud, whose name is associated with Brahms’ work. Although her focus for decades has been on her acclaimed performances around the globe, Grimaud has also been distinguished and moved by her ecological sensitivity, her fondness for… wolves, and her writing talent. A multifaceted personality, in the service of a multifaceted music, sometimes dramatic, sometimes lyrical, but also joyfully danceable.
