The Hellenic Foundation for Book and Culture (HFBC) and Megaron the Athens Concert Hall continue their successful collaboration, once again organising this year’s series of events “Writers, Books, Ideas,” which aims to highlight originality, authenticity, storytelling, research, the art of conversation and the oral tradition.
Ian McEwan (b. 1948) writes novels that have become international bestsellers and have been translated into more than 30 languages. He has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize six times, winning it in 1998 for Amsterdam. Widely honoured both in his own country and internationally, he was named British Author of the Year in 2008. Many of his novels have been adapted for film, including Atonement, which won the BAFTA for Best Film and the Golden Globe for Best Film. In 2023, he was appointed a Companion of Honour. His most recent novel, What We Can Know (transl. Katerina Schina, Patakis Publications, 2026), deals with “the search, revenge, fame, a love affair, mental illness, a love of nature and poetry, and our gift for survival. It is an attempt to let the past, present and future speak to one another, overcoming the barrier of time.”
Ian McEwan will be in conversation with Ilias Maglinis, journalist and author.
