Rossini’s two-act opera, based on Voltaire’s tragedy Sémiramis, makes a rare appearance on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, for the first time in almost 25 years. Under the baton of Maurizio Benini, soprano Angela Meade appears in the title role as the Queen of Babylon, while mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong sings the trouser role of Arsace.
