Overview

Ballet in two acts

The historical dance ensemble, based in one of the most important opera houses of the former Soviet Union, returns to Athens after a long absence.
With their own Academy, as well as dancers from famous ballets of other countries of the former Soviet Union, the Odessa National Opera Ballet remains one of the top ensembles of Eastern Europe. Great dancers and choreographers present classical works on tours all over the world.
Swan Lake, Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece, is probably the most popular ballet of all time. The Adage, the Pas de deux, Odette’s Variation, the Dance of the Little Swans, and the Black Swan’s solo are among the most demanding parts in the history of ballet.
The plot, based on folk tales, is about a beautiful princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse; only love can break the spell.
The Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet has a history of centuries: great composers, singers, dancers, and choreographers have presented their work here. Four sculptors and two painters worked for the completion of this architectural miracle, the second largest after the Teatro alla Scala, and one of the most beautiful in the world. The boards of its stage have been trod by such great artists as dancers Anna Pavlova and Isadora Duncan, and the legendary stage actress Sarah Bernhardt. The Forbes Magazine recently included it in a list of the most unusual sights in Eastern Europe.

Choreography Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov
