The Bolshoi Ballet Live: Spartacus Dance at Megaron- The Bolshoi Ballet Live from Moscow

Denisova Rodkin by Voronova Natalia

Overview

After conquering Thrace, consul Crassus returns triumphant to Rome, dragging the aristocrat Spartacus and his wife, Phrygia, as captives. The couple is violently separated: Spartacus is imprisoned and Phrygia becomes a slave to the consul. Yet Spartacus’ love for his wife and his passion for freedom lead him to revolt, and soon many other prisoners join him. But Aegina, Crassus’ scheming companion, slips into the rebels’ lines in order to disrupt Spartacus’ plans.

A large-scale, truly impressive work, Spartacus belongs to the masterpieces of the orchestral repertoire, thanks also to Aram Khachaturian’s award-winning music. The four protagonists and the corps de ballet, often reaching the very limits of their physical strength and technical excellence, make Spartacus the most successful production of the Bolshoi Ballet, full of dazzling virtuosity and deep lyricism.
