In his long international career, he has distinguished himself as a true virtuoso, capable of mastering even the most demanding piano scores. With equal success and imagination, he has moved within the parallel musical universe of jazz. His immersion in these two very different stylistic worlds has given his jazz performances something of the clarity and intellectual rigour of classical music, while at the same time lending his classical interpretations some of the spontaneity and freshness of jazz.

This year’s recital includes important solo piano works by Mozart and Chopin, and concludes with a performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s breathtaking Sonata No. 2 in its original 1913 version — rarely heard today due to its extreme technical challenges, yet always radiating the passion and pianistic brilliance of the great Russian composer’s writing.
