“Love is a prison. But not the worst of all. […] I experienced death in the sorrowful gaze of an abused soul. […] I cannot bear injustice. I cannot tolerate it. I no longer regret anything. […] And since I cannot die, I turn my back on you. Humbly… And if I am ever reborn, let them not call me beautiful Helen, the cause of war. Let them call me Helen of Troy no more; let them call me Helen of Peace.”
A symbol of wronged beauty and lost celestial harmony—abused like every defenseless being crushed in the millstones of History—Helen continues to exist, to evolve, and to negotiate with Time. She now welcomes old age as a blessing that frees her from the torment of Love. This is the Helen shaped by Dr. Konstantinos Bouras: a Helen reconciled with herself, who sleeps peacefully at night, who has forgiven her persecutors, and who empathizes deeply with all living creatures. She is Helen of Peace.
This powerful theatrical monologue, which touches upon sensitive themes such as freedom, egoism, and injustice, is interwoven with traditional songs performed by Georgia Zoi. The production is further enriched by the original music and songs of Zoe Tiganouria.
