Deeply familiar with the Greek and international repertoire, Philarmonia’s principal conductor Byron Fidetzis, in his rich artistic career, has accustomed us to imaginative programmes. This time he turns his attention to two exceptional works by Darius Millais and Richard Strauss, which we do not often hear live, choosing to combine them with the magnificent Viola Concerto by the Greek composer Dimitris Dragatakis. The jazzy, “black” sound traced in The Creation of the World meets the elegant flashbacks to the French Baroque of Archontochoriatis, while the viola in a soloistic role sets its own tone for the concert programme.
