Handel’s oratorio The Messiah is one of the most popular choral works of all time. Handel’s sublime music, as divine as it is underlines those passages of the Old Testament that refer to the coming of the Messiah. Librettist Charles Jennens creates a story which, without referring to Jesus himself, describes in chilling detail the events of his life in gruesome detail through prophecies that have come to light before his birth. Camerata and George Petrou, having conquered the highest peaks internationally in the interpretation of baroque music, have teamed up with with an international group of great soloists. The Athens Chamber Choir was created on the initiative of Agathangelos Georgakatos on the occasion of the the presentation of Handel’s opera Semeli at the International Handel Festival of Göttingen, receiving rave reviews from the international press.
