Jordi Savall
Le Concert des Nations

Overview
The return to historical instruments and historically informed performance techniques was neither easy nor quick. Among the artists who already in the 1970s were not afraid to propose an “old” sound as authentically new, up-to-date and artistically alive, was Spanish conductor Jordi Savall, who as a viola da gamba performer knew the secrets of early music in depth. Possessing an ambitious artistic vision, he consistently gave benchmark performances, many of which have been captured in award-winning recordings. His appearance at Megaron with the orchestra which he created and is leading, together with the women’s section of the National Choir of Catalonia, focuses on two of Felix Mendelssohn’s leading symphonic works, which combine rhythmic vitality with melodic lyricism.
