Overview
The first of four recitals of the Cycle (6.5.2020, 14.10.2020 & 12.12.2020)
Beethoven in 2020: the 250 th birthday of the great composer (1770-1827) will be celebrated with tributes all over the world. The Athens Concert Hall and the distinguished pianist, teacher, and international Beethoven scholar will present four tribute recitals featuring well-known as well as lesser-known Beethoven works. Martinos Tirimos is at present recording Beethoven’s complete piano works for a 16-CD edition. An authority on Viennese classicism with a wide repertoire, he boasts a list of over 60 recordings (the complete Mozart, Schubert, Debussy, Chopin, etc.).
The cycle opens with a series of early works like the Rondo in C major written at the age of 12 and the variations on the English patriotic song ‘God save the King’ that subsequently became Britain’s national anthem. The programme includes two of his best-loved sonatas, The Tempest and Waldstein.
