The MEIZON Ensemble , in collaboration with the Athenian Sextet of Plucked String Instruments “Dimitris Dounis,” presents an evening dedicated to the Ionian School and the urban musical tradition of Old Athens: serenades, barcarolles, nocturnes, solo songs, and duets in which the yearning of love, the admiration of nature, and the delicate romanticism of a bygone era are expressed through the distinctive sound of the mandolin and the guitar. The programme includes melodies such as Heavenly Creature, The Moon Shines Bright Tonight, and The Confession, as well as poetic settings of works by Polemis, Valaoritis, and Solomos, humorous songs like The Frogs, and festive songs such as the Bacchic.

The male voices of the MEIZON Ensemble will perform choral works by composers of the Ionian Islands and representatives of the First Athenian School, while the solo and duet numbers are interpreted by Dimitris Platanias, Dionysis Sourbis, and Giannis Christopoulos.
