Ilias Karellas returns for the fifth consecutive year to the Megaron Garden with a new, hilarious shadow theatre production inspired by Greek mythology and the Labours of Hercules.
In the most beautiful garden in Athens, six summer performances bring to life a beloved hero for audiences of all ages, in a fully immersive experience combining shadow theatre and live music for the whole family.
Hercucles appears as a striking giant shadow figure and, accompanied by Karagiozis, faces bizarre creatures and mythical monsters. From the Lernaean Hydra to Cerberus, the Labours unfold as a thrilling adventure filled with imagery, rhythm and unexpected twists.
Karagiozis, with his timeless humour and the familiar cast of shadow theatre characters, constantly intervenes in the storyline, turning each challenge into an unpredictable and entertaining theatrical moment.
Music lies at the heart of the performance: each Labour becomes a demanding “score” composed by King Eurystheus and performed by his orchestra. His ensemble creates a powerful and imposing musical world, while Karagiozis interrupts with his own folk band, using traditional instruments and rhythms to rewrite the score and alter the course of events with wit and humour.
Shadow theatre takes on a new dimension in the Megaron Garden: large-scale shadows, giant figures, live music and a single performer come together to create a spectacular summer experience, blending tradition with the present.
A major production for audiences aged 4 to 104, bringing together Greek mythology, shadow theatre and live music in an experience full of imagination and nostalgia.
