MUSICAL PORTRAITS
The second tribute concert to composer and music teacher Thodoros Antoniou for the 85th anniversary of his birth (10.02.1935-26.12.2018): the Hellenic Group of Contemporary Music, under the baton of another pupil of Antoniou, Iakovos Konitopoulos, in a compositionally kaleidoscopic programme featuring Οctet (1986), a theme with variations; Three Likes (1973: Like an Introduction, Like a Lament, Like Variations), which forms part of a wider cycle of experimental compositions for solo instruments; and the intercultural work East-West (1993), based on a Taiwanese folk song and the Seikilos Epitaph. In The Frogs, Antoniou follows the text of Aristophanes and Pavlos Matesis’ fine translation (Open Theatre–Festival of Epidaurus, 1990).
