Overview
The second symphonic music concert of the Athens State Orchestra features two works –Elgar’s Second symphony and Rachmaninoff’s Second piano concerto. Thus it’s clear that the number two has left a deep imprint on tonight’s concert programme, both in and between the lines! The youthful conductor Finnegan Downey Dear attracted global attention when he won the 2020 International Mahler Competition organised by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and since then, he has been making one successful debut after another around the world. He is joined by internationally renowned pianist Kirill Gerstein, sought after for his unique combination of virtuosity and heartfelt emotion that he brings to performances covering a truly wide-ranging repertoire,
