As part of her appearance in Athens, the young Austrian cellist Valerie Fritz will give a workshop for composers and cellists entitled “Contemporary Performance Techniques on the Cello.”
A rising star of the ECHO Rising Stars scheme, Valerie Fritz has a fondness for the unusual: she collaborates with contemporary composers, balancing the classical repertoire with works that push beyond the conventional boundaries of musical practice. She has been selected as a Rising Star for the 2025/26 season and is particularly active in contemporary music.

About the ECHO Rising Stars scheme
Each year, the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) selects young artists of exceptional merit, who give concerts in the member halls of the ECHO network. Since 1995, through the Rising Stars scheme, the Organisation has helped to bring forward artists who are now well known on the international music scene. More here
Alongside showcasing rising stars, the scheme aims to promote respect for diversity, inclusion and the strengthening of social bonds. To this end, the Rising Stars recitals are accompanied by educational activities, workshops, visits to social institutions and more.
