The Yale Symphony Orchestra (YSO) has performed countless concerts, toured the world and collaborated with some of the brightest names in classical music (Yo-Yo Ma, Nigel Kennedy, Hermanuel Axe, etc.). Today it is considered one of the most important youth orchestras in the United States, and many of its young musicians go on to careers in the world’s most important orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston and Los Angeles Symphonies, the London Philharmonic, and others. The YSO has always placed great emphasis on contemporary music. In its early days it gave the European premiere of Bernstein’s Mass and has since commissioned and premiered dozens of works by new composers. The Orchestra is conducted by William Bowton, founder of the English Symphony Orchestra (ESO) and an internationally acclaimed conductor both from his collaborations with major orchestras and soloists around the world and from his extensive and award-winning discography.
