It is now well known that Bach’s music is the basis on which Western music as a whole evolved. Even contemporary genres such as pop, rock, and jazz have their roots in the German composer, and there are countless transcriptions of his works by younger composers. As part of Piano Days, Achilleas Wastor creates a completely personal musical landscape based on the Preludes and Fugues, developing the forms improvisationally with elements from contemporary, jazz, and even Greek traditional music. Bach himself, after all, transcribed works by composers of his time in a unique way. Westor performs two of them, Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in a transcription for organ, and Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Violins in a transcription… of the transcription. By Bach first for organ and then by Feinberg, this time for piano.
