Alekos Vretos’ project “Mediterranean Echoes”, almost two years after its first presentation at the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall, is being adapted for the breezy atmosphere of Megaron the Athens Concert Hall Garden. The beloved oud player and composer, together with his quartet, welcomes the summer season with melodies and rhythms of the Mediterranean, inviting musicians whom he respects and loves to the Garden, to create together on stage a relaxing and playful experience, perfectly matched with the verdant backdrop of a small musical oasis in the centre of Athens.
Seated on the grass with a cool drink in hand, relaxed and carefree, we watch the city disappear behind the notes and intoxicating aromas of the Concert Hall Garden, listening to the excellent accordionist Christos Zerbinos guide us, with the subtlety of his interpretation and the depth of his sensitivity, along musical paths that we will all effortlessly want to follow. That evening, violinist Nikos Kiakos, a rare virtuoso who knows how to balance with unique ease between classical and traditional music, will also be Alekos Vretos’ guest.
Haig Yazdjian (voice, oud), friend and teacher of Alekos Vretos, will collaborate with him on favourite songs and compositions from all the places that Yazdjian carries within him (Syria, Turkey, Armenia, Greece), encouraging, with his voice and oud, Alekos and his collaborators to continue serving the music they love with directness, respect and sincerity. Because in music, above all else, is sincerity.
