Amahl and the Night Visitors

Overview
CHRISTMAS AT THE MEGARON – OPERA
Co-production:
Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall
Pure Art
‘Yes, I know a child the colour of earth… the colour of thorn. His eyes are sad… But no one will bring him incense or gold…’ Little Amahl’s vivid imagination – he is the main character, just as little Jesus is in the Nativity tales – introduces the supernatural element of fairy stories to this opera, in which anything could happen – even miracles. The opera Amahl and the Night Visitors by the Italian Gian Carlo Menotti, one of the greatest 20th-century composers, premiered on New York’s ΝΒC TV channel in 1951. The composer was inspired by Hieronymus Bosch’s well-known painting The Adoration of the Magi in the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
A tender Christmas performance, full of wonderful music, loved by generations of audiences young and old.
