CONCERTS BY THE ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA

The most famous moment in the work of great Austrian composer Gustav Mahler is the Adagietto, the slow movement of his Symphony No. 5, used, decades after its composition, to such a haunting effect, in Luchino Visconti’s adaptation of Thomas Mann’s novella Death in Venice. Yet the Fifth is a symphonic masterpiece in its entirety; a long, adventurous journey along the innermost paths of the human soul—under the baton, on this occasion, of award-winning German conductor Matthias Foremny.
