Athens State Orchestra: ‘Pauses in the Light’

Overview
CONCERTS BY THE ATHENS STATE ORCHESTRA
In collaboration with the Canadian Embassy in Athens
Athens State Orchestra’s principal horn Kostas Siskos is the soloist in Christos Hatzis’ Concerto, a melancholy meditation on the dark moments of the 20th century and mankind’s uncertain future. Richard Strauss’ Serenade, an early work, and Beethoven’s exuberant, graceful, and optimistic Symphony No. 4 provide the perfect counterpoint to Hatzis’ sombre work.
– Richard Strauss: Serenade in E-flat major for 13 wind instruments, Op. 7
– Christos Hatzis: Winter Solstice, concerto for French horn and string orchestra
– Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60
