Collegium Musicum is a vibrant chamber orchestra, born of its members’ shared desire to perform together and to explore the inexhaustible orchestral repertoire. Under the direction of conductor, pianist, and composer Nikos Athineos, the ensemble turns to Greek music, presenting works by emblematic Greek composers.

G.A. Papaioannou was a prominent representative of the musical avant-garde in Greece (and, in his time, one of the very few), while Dimitris Dragatakis drew inspiration from Greek musical tradition in his own original way. Theodoros Antoniou, an academic and longtime president of the Greek Composers’ Union, was an undisputed exponent of contemporary art music in Greece, a true reference point for colleagues and students alike. His worthy successor as president of the Union, Iosif Papadatos, is a distinguished academic and composer with international awards and recognition to his credit.

Greek music followed many different paths throughout the 20th century, and these four composers trace and illuminate them in the most compelling way.
