The century-old Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra is one of Europe’s leading orchestras, principal conductor Alevtina Ioffe stands out in recent years for her unique her unique readings of musical works, while the young pianist Alexander Malofeev began his career as a child prodigy displaying a dazzling musicianship. Equally important are the four symphonic works featuring on the concert’s programme, which stand out for their imaginative orchestration and lyricism (Prokofiev), their boldness and expressionistic ferocity (Bartók), and the extreme virtuosic challenges they pose to soloists (Chopin, Liszt).
