In the footsteps of El Greco Christos Tzifakis

Overview
In the footsteps of El Greco is a music-and-dance journey from Crete to Spain, following the “footsteps” of the great Greek painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos. Guitarist and composer Christos Tzifakis perceives the two countries’ contemporary music and dance as a common theme with variations. Having lived in both Crete and Spain, he draws inspiration from the grand masters of Cretan music and Spanish flamenco to bring to light the musical affinities of the two peoples. In the manner of an alchemist, he mixes elements from the past –Byzantine, Arabic, Greek and Gypsy– with jazz-rock ones, highlighting the rousing Dionysian energy of the Mediterranean’s two extremes, together with the folk wisdom that is to be found in the Cretan mantináda and the Spanish letra. He is accompanied by the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra and distinguished soloists.
