In this concert-homage to Mikis Theodorakis, Maria Farantouri sings for the first time in Greece the cantata The Survivor, which the great Greek composer wrote in 1969 while exiled in Zatouna, Peloponnese, setting to music the poetry of Takis Sinopoulos. As Mikis Theodorakis himself notes, “within the poem by Sinopoulos, there is an anguished cry for man, which I felt touching me so deeply that it made me want to set it to music… The Survivor was our enormous success abroad. Maria Farantouri sang it in a profoundly stirring way.” In the concert, internationally renowned singer Maria Farantouri, together with the acclaimed bass-baritone Tassos Apostolou, will also perform well-known songs by Mikis Theodorakis from his song cycles Odyssey, Poetica, Asmata, Serenades, Mauthausen, Ballads, as well as songs setting to music poems by Kalvos, Seferis, Elytis, Ritsos, Lorca, Anagnostakis, Gatsos and others.
