In the personality and work of Eleftherios Venizelos, popular musical tradition found rich ground for inspiration, with songs that often served as a repository of collective memory and as “news bulletins” at both local and national level. In this musical performance, with research, artistic direction and texts by Lambros Liavas, Professor of Ethnomusicology at the University of Athens, hymns and rousing songs for Venizelos are presented, along with songs from the Balkan Wars and the era of the National Schism, Cretan mantinades and rizitika songs for the National Leader, as well as popular rebetika songs written on the occasion of his death.
