Megaron the Athens Concert Hall dedicates a special evening to Spyros Sakkas, one of the most important Greek lyric singers, on the occasion of the seventy years of his unique musical journey. Through a staged narrative that combines music, spoken word, and rare archival material, the tribute reconstructs his personal and artistic path, one inextricably linked to the history of modern Greek music.
From the world of Attik and the Athenian “boîtes” to opera, European lied, and musical avant-garde, the evening comes alive through performances by beloved collaborators, friends, and students of his, as well as through Spyros Sakkas’s own personal accounts of his encounters with leading composers such as Yannis Christou, Iannis Xenakis, Manos Hadjidakis, Theodore Antoniou, and Yorgos Kouroupos, honoring an iconic figure who left an indelible mark on Greek musical creation.
The day after the concert, Spyros Sakkas will give a workshop on contemporary vocal technique, in which he will present his groundbreaking approach to the voice as a means of freedom and experimentation.
