Highlights of the 2025 – 2026 Artistic Season at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall

This year’s dynamic programme at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall bridges international innovation with local creativity and hosts performers and ensembles of worldwide renown, distinguished Greek artists, iconic figures from the worlds of theatre and dance, and productions for the whole family.

The artistic programme for the 2025–2026 season brings to the stage leading soloists, prestigious orchestras, and dynamic international collaborations. Highlights include soprano Asmik Grigorian with pianist Lukas Geniušas (17.10.2025), the duo Sol Gabetta – Bertrand Chamayou (22.10.2025), the return of Teodor Currentzis and the Utopia Orchestra (14 & 15.11.2025), J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio performed by Les Arts Florissants under Paul Agnew (16.12.2025), the London Philharmonic Orchestra with Paavo Järvi and Alexandre Kantorow (7.3.2026), and the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Leonidas Kavakos with soloist Kian Soltani (9.5.2026).

The Camerata Friends of Music Orchestra, led by acclaimed maestro George Petrou, presents three major concerts on period instruments, including the traditional New Year’s concert with Strauss family waltzes. A major highlight of the season is the Spring Festival (March–April 2026), featuring all five Beethoven piano concertos performed by Kiril Gerstein with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, as well as all Rachmaninoff piano concertos performed by Denis Kozhukhin with the Athens State Orchestra. The premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s new work Dream Requiem (22.3.2026), with Chiara Mastroianni as narrator and soprano Caitlin Gotimer, completes the grand symphonic line-up.

Great Performers

Internationally renowned soprano Asmik Grigorian, celebrated for her explosive stage presence and deep expressiveness, opens the artistic season (17.10.2025), accompanied by pianist Lukas Geniušas in a lyrical programme dedicated to the works of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff.

On 22.10.2025, two top soloists, cellist Sol Gabetta and pianist Bertrand Chamayou, join forces in a demanding repertoire ranging from Mendelssohn and Brahms to contemporary composers Rihm and Widmann.

 

Major Orchestras – Leading Conductors

On 14 and 15.11.2025, Teodor Currentzis returns with the Utopia Orchestra, presenting in Greece for the first time Wagner’s symphonic masterpiece The Ring without Words in Lorin Maazel’s legendary orchestral adaptation.

During the festive season, on 16.12.2025, Les Arts Florissants under Paul Agnew perform four of the six cantatas from J.S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with a stellar cast of soloists and choristers, capturing the musical spirit of Christmas.

On 28.1.2026, the Lucerne Festival Strings join forces with Augustin Hadelich, one of today’s most admired violinists, for an evening of virtuosity and musical maturity.

On 7.3.2026, the London Philharmonic Orchestra appears at the Concert Hall under Paavo Järvi, with multi-award-winning pianist Alexandre Kantorow as soloist.

On 18 and 19.3.2026, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, with Kiril Gerstein as both conductor and soloist, returns to Athens, representing the pinnacle of European performance.

On 3.4.2026, the Constellation Choir & Orchestra under Sir John Eliot Gardiner make their first appearance at the Concert Hall, bringing the dramatic sound and impressive range of a new symphonic ensemble.

On 9.5.2026, the Philharmonia Orchestra performs under Leonidas Kavakos with charismatic cellist Kian Soltani in a programme of international appeal.

Camerata Friends of Music Orchestra

The season begins on 2 November with the Mozart Concerti, featuring works such as the Concerto for Two Pianos K.365 and the Concerto for Flute and Harp K.299 performed on authentic period instruments, including an 1802 harp and replica fortepianos identical to Mozart’s own.

On 19 November, two symphonic masterpieces from 1822 are presented: Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and Beethoven’s iconic Fifth.

On 28 December, Monteverdi’s Vespro della Beata Vergine is performed for the first time in Greece on period instruments, under the direction of tenor and conductor Emiliano Gonzalez Toro.

Finally, on 4 January, the Camerata welcomes the New Year with the music of imperial Vienna, featuring waltzes by Johann Strauss II and his family under the baton of Dionysis Grammenos.

Rachmaninoff Cycle

The Concert Hall dedicates a thematic cycle to the great Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, featuring five distinguished Greek pianists: Vassilis Varvaresos (28.11.2025), Vassilis Tsabropoulos (9.12.2025), George-Emmanuel Lazaridis (25.1.2026), Alexia Mouza (11.2.2026), and Alexandra Papastefanou (26.2.2026).

Christmas at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall

From 20 December 2025 to 5 January 2026, the Concert Hall transforms into a theatrical wonderland for all ages with the original musical Aladdin and the Three Christmas Wishes. Starring ZAF as Aladdin and created by Myrto Kondova, Sofia Spyratou, Chloe Mantzari, Stefanos Korkolis and Gerasimos Evangelatos, the show promises magic, humour, and imagination.

Dance at Megaron the Athens Concert Hall

The dance series hosts leading international companies: the Grands Ballets Canadiens (7–9.11.2025) with a work by Hélène Blackburn, and the historic Pina Bausch Tanztheater (17–20.7.2026) with a piece by Pina Bausch herself.

 

Jazz @ Megaron – 1 to 18.11.2025

The Jazz @ Megaron series continues with a strong international flair. Performers include the Stacey Kent Trio in the Alexandra Trianti Hall and the Richard Bona & Alfredo Rodriguez Trio in the Banquet Hall, alongside key figures of the Greek jazz scene.

International Quartets

This year’s programme features appearances by two legendary string quartets: the Borodin Quartet (19.1.2026) and the Juilliard Quartet (23.4.2026), both of which have shaped the interpretative tradition of an entire era.

Megaron Spring Festival – March / April 2026

The 2026 Spring Festival brings together major symphonic events, including Rufus Wainwright’s Dream Requiem in its Greek premiere, featuring Chiara Mastroianni as narrator, soprano Caitlin Gotimer, and the ERT National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mikko Franck.

Two unique marathons follow: Kiril Gerstein performs all five of Beethoven’s piano concertos with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, while Denis Kozhukhin presents all five of Rachmaninoff’s piano concertos with the Athens State Orchestra.

In addition, the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève (17–18 March 2026) will appear with a new choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

 

Orchestras in Residence

Once again, the Athens State Orchestra and the Greek Youth Symphony Orchestra (ELSON) are in residence, presenting concerts that showcase both familiar and lesser-known works from the international and Greek repertoire.

On 20 December, renowned violinist Leonidas Kavakos shares the stage with distinguished cellist Timotheos Gavrielidis-Petrin for a rare performance of Brahms’s Double Concerto, in collaboration with ELSON and conductor Dionysis Grammenos. The concert concludes with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World, in an evening that showcases the dynamism and expressive maturity of the Orchestra’s young musicians.

 

Educational Activities

Throughout the season, the Concert Hall offers activities for all ages—families, children, teenagers, adults, and schools—introducing participants to the magical world of music through concerts, workshops, guided tours, and interactive experiences. annexM – Megaron the Concert Hall’s Visual Arts Centre

Under the direction of Anna Kafetsi, annexM presents three daring and thought-provoking exhibitions, including Jenny Marketou’s Folly for Songs for Funk Kinships in the Concert Hall Garden (Sept 2025 – May 2026), a new experimental project by artist Yorgos Drivas exploring the creative limits of Artificial Intelligence (Oct 2025 – Jan 2026), and an exhibition by Andreas Kassapis (Nov 2025 – Jan 2026) combining painting and text to question human and AI relationships.
