Tango was born in the working-class neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires, in the city’s port bars and brothels, in the late 19th century. It began to be danced exclusively by men and evolved into the erotic dance, full of fire and passion, that we know today. In this collaboration, acclaimed pianists Leto Thomou and Erato Alakiozidou bring us the pulse of Ástor Piazzolla’s colourful universe. Combining Latin rhythms with elements of jazz and classical music, the bandoneon virtuoso who conquered the world renewed the genre by creating the new tango (tango nuevo). In 1996, Grammy-winning Argentine composer Pablo Sieglers transcribed twelve of Piazzolla’s most famous tango for two pianos, dedicating them to himself and Emmanuel Axe. The collection was called Los tangueros (The Tangueros) and showcases the full range of Piazzolla’s unique style.
