July 2024 marks fifty years since the end of the seven-year dictatorship. Fifty years of continuous democracy, a long period of normality (with all the ups and downs we have all experienced), an experience unprecedented in the two hundred years or more of the Greek state’s life. The Union of Greek Composers wanted to see the event not only as an anniversary, but above all as an opportunity to reflect on the good of democracy – which we often invoke with great ease – and on our duty to keep open channels with the different, the opponent, the opposite, the foreigner. In December 2024, a concert and open discussion was held on the theme of the 50th anniversary of the return of democracy to the country. The idea is completed on the stage of the Dimitris Mitropoulos Hall: five young and young creators accepted the challenge to articulate the experience of the last fifty years with sounds and silences through their works, which will be heard in a first performance.
