Two great liturgical musical traditions, set against the ecstatic whirling of the Mevlevi Dervishes.
The Whirling Dervishes of Istanbul join with the Byzantine Choir of the Association of Constantinopolitan Music-Lovers of Athens, bringing together voices and whirling movement in an evening of spiritual union.
One is Christian, dating back to the 4th century during the Byzantine Empire; the other emerging under the influence of the Mevlevi mystical order, founded in the 12th century by the great master Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi. Against the powerful backdrop of the ancient mysteries, the performance becomes more than a concert: it is a ritual in its own right, evoking timeless questions about the soul, the sacred, and the shared paths of humanity.
In this spiritually resonant evening, the Whirling Dervishes of Istanbul join the Association of the Byzantine Choir of Constantinople–Athens in a rare convergence of sacred traditions. Lyra soloist Sokratis Sinopoulos and stage director Michael Marmarinos also contribute to this unique event.
The movement of the dervishes and the resonant harmonies of the choir, “Sacred Paths” will offer the audience a journey through sound and silence, presence and memory — a celebration of the enduring spiritual legacy that continues to link East and West, past and future.
After sold-out performances at the Philharmonie in Paris and in Eleusis as part of the 3rd International Symposium for a New Eleusis, this is the last chance to see the production.
