An exhilarating journey into the world of the Brazilian carnival with the Quilombo ensemble. More than 50 musicians and dancers, led by the powerful sounds of Afro-Brazilian percussion, take us on a voyage, inviting us to dance with them and immerse ourselves—costumed or not—in the Dionysian energy of samba batucada, samba reggae, and bossa nova. Quilombo brings to the stage the pulsating heartbeat of the drums, while Katerina Polemi and her group will transport us with their unique performances. The evening is enriched with dance by the Afro-Brazilian group Dançauê, and the costumes and stage constructions promise to enchant us!
For over 20 years, the hyper-active Quilombo ensemble—comprising at least 100 members—has been developing a rich artistic, educational, and social programme through its namesake Cultural Center. With a core message of joy, liberating communication, and the emotional enrichment brought by art through collective action and collaboration—so vital in today’s era of isolation—the group maintains strong artistic and educational ties with Brazil as it continues to evolve its work. Samba batucada and samba reggae form unique “Bridges” between African, Portuguese, and Indigenous cultures, as well as the culture of Jamaica.
This is a dance event with standing audience. The stalls area will be arranged and will function as a dance floor.
The bars of the Banquet Hall will be open throughout the event.
