Simos Papanas, violin – Karolos Zouganelis, piano

Overview
In their first-ever meeting on the stage, the two accomplished musicians choose to approach key works of the repertoire for violin and piano, presenting two four-part works of almost symphonic dimensions: Beethoven’s Seventh sonata and Brahms’ Third sonata, the last one he composed for the two instruments.
The dramatic and extensive Sonata “for fortepiano and violin” is a superb example of Beethoven’s early period as a composer. Uniquely influential on the next generations of composers, Beethoven also influenced Brahms, whose mature, last sonata represents the culmination of his impetuous and demanding writing for the combination of violin and piano.
Karolos Zouganelis, a multi-awarded soloist, profound connoisseur of chamber music and professor at the Paris Conservatoire, meets Simos Papanas, concertmaster of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra and distinguished composer, whose first Sonata for violin and piano was commissioned by Megaron, in a long-awaited collaboration.
