Concert with works by Manos Hatzidakis

PART 1: “MYTHOLOGY”
THE UNEXPECTED FORMATION OF A “MYTHOLOGY” TWO YEARS BEFORE THE DICTATORSHIP
“As a genuine general in ’65 I wanted to make a revolution in Greece. Instead of a tank, I took a child – a dark and handsome teenager from the children’s choir of the palace and told him to sing. He says to me: “To sing I need new myths.” – That’s right, I thought. And Gazzo and I began to construct myths one after another, with girls who lost the keys to Thebes, with Irishmen and Jews searching the desert for marriage and joy, with sensitive bandits at their last moment, with a child who slaughtered friends and brothers because no one ever gave him the attention he deserved, with Orestes who became a bird in the forest to escape his fate, with a child who looked like Christ and much more. And one myth piled upon another and became so many and so strong that the child was frightened, the world was frightened, and the record company was frightened. Everybody was frightened except Gatsos and me, who continued with more passion the construction and composition of the myths, completely forgetting the revolution I had planned” Manos Hadjidakis

PART TWO: 19 SONGS OF AN “OTHER MYTHOLOGY”
A section of independent songs of an “other mythology” by the composer, with paper moons illuminating children down on the plain, drunken girls, travelers, young princes who thought they would change the world, and a misunderstanding that we don’t know if an explanation has been given yet.
